DIY Console Table w/ Minwax

You guys. I’ve had this project in my head for over a year and I finally made it a reality with the help of Minwax. So let’s get into it shall we?

I had envisioned building a console table as a piece that I could easily move around the house to fit whatever I am feeling a room may need at that moment. I’m thinking the console would be a great way to style and showcase plants and books in the living room. Or even as a place to hold miscellaneous items in the upstairs landing. Wherever it may land, I knew it would come to good use once I finally got around to building it.

To get started I pulled a few pieces of scrap wood that I had from other projects. It was a fairly straightforward and easy construction using 2” x 8” pine boards to build the table and 2” x 3”for the trim pieces. (I’m also thankful that I kept these extra pieces of wood laying around for extra future projects!)

Once I had the pieces together, I measured the for the legs of the table to be 31” in. and the top of the console for a length of 36” in.

Using some wood glue, I attached the legs and the top and then used my nail gun to hold everything in place once I assembled the wood pieces. I then used three (3) wood screws on each side to make to secure and stabilize the table.

Now its time for the trim! Using my miter saw, I cut the trim at 45-degree angles to have that nice miter corner touch. I repeated the process of attaching the trim to the table using wood glue and my nail gun.

Next up, I filled in all the nail holes with wood filler, allowed it to dry and then sanded everything down using medium grit sandpaper. Once the console was all smooth and clean, I prepped the surface of the table withMinwax Pre-Stain Wood Conditioner. I always, always, always, use this product before every staining project to ensure a nice and even coat of stain.

Once dry (takes about 15 minutes), I grabbed a can ofMinwax Wood Finish Penetrating Stain in the color Pickled Oak (please note that this particular stain color has been discontinued but there are other stain colors available in the white color family).

Once the table was all dry, which only took one (1) hour, it was time to style this baby! I decided it would be cute for now to place in my bedroom under some artwork to hold books that I had laying around in various spots of the house.

I’m not sure how long it will be in this spot, but it sure is cute for now!
