Home Projects Recap 2023

It’s that time to look back and see what I was able to cross off my 2023 Home Projects list and let me tell ya…I’m so damn proud of myself! Y’all, I accomplished a lot and I know it had to do with me having a much calmer and peaceful life than I had the previous the year, you know, that one year where I didn’t do ANYTHING! If you’re new here, check out this blog post where I shared my project list for 2022 and then this post on why not one item was crossed off.

Anyway, let’s get right into shall we?

Master Bedroom Closet

First, up is the master bedroom closet - DONE! And honestly, this project wasn't even completed strategically. My virgo soul just woke up one day and couldn’t take the disorganization anymore! Previous to that day, I went to my local The Container Store and had them design a system for me. I really loved what we came up with but to be completely honest, I didn’t want to pay the $1,200 price tag for it. So I took my happy self right on down to IKEA and using the design I had from The Container Store, I purchased the similar Boaxel System for literally a FRACTION of the cost. I’m talking like a grand total of $250!

IKEA Boaxel System, Closet Organization

I was able to assemble and organize my closet in one freakin weekend and I have not looked back since. My closet now remains clutter free and my heart still skips a beat when I open the door in the morning to get dressed for the day!

Daughter’s Bedroom

My daughter’s bedroom was the next on the list and I can share that it is DONE! but with a caveat (Ha!). I still think the room needs some additional artwork and a different set of curtains to make it officially complete. However, my daughter absolutely LOVES her room!

I still need to take the time to photograph it so I can share it with y’all, but that’s going to be tricky. Because, have you ever tried to get a teenager out of their room and for it to be clean enough to photograph? If you know how to accomplish that, please let me know, and I will be more than happy to share the end result of the room with ya, lol.

Backyard Patio Oasis

Now, onto the back patio oasis. I’ll share that this is still a work in progress but this space is slowly but surely getting to the oasis I dream of. The first step was to actually get the patio cleaned up and decluttered. I had been storing some stuff that needed to go to our local dump and had procrastinated. So I finally (over)paid 1-800-Junk to come and pick those items up. Once everything was cleaned up, I ordered a cute outdoor seating set from Amazon along with a potting bench and an outdoor rug.

Everything held up EXCEPT for the cushions. One day, I forgot to bring the cushions in and it rained. Unfortunately, the wood stained the cushions and they’ve looked pretty horrible since then. This year, I’ll look to find some outdoor (rain and sun-friendly) cushions in a fun colorway.

The best part of the oasis is the gigantic banana leaf tree that grows bigger and bigger in the backyard!

Kid’s Bathroom Makeover

The most exciting project of the year was the kid’s bathroom. In partnership with Fireclay Tile, the bathroom got a major upgrade with new floor and wall tile. I worked with a local tile company who demolished and installed the tile in a week. Unfortunately, this project did not come without hiccups (face palm). The plumbing was an absolute nightmare to work through. (I need to share my experience on this to save someone else the headache, but this won’t be the post for that.) I also had issues with getting the vanity installed due to how the water lines were configured. All in all, it took about 5 weeks for the project to be completed. I know I haven’t shared the final photos for it but that is because it still looks too “white” for me. I want to paint the walls or do something in there to add more depth to the space. At some point, the creative jolt will hit me and then the bathroom will be DONE, DONE! But here is the space so far!

I think what worked really well for me in 2023 was keeping the list super short. I had only four projects to complete in 12 months and thankfully no hard and fast deadlines from the brands I worked with. This allowed me a ton of flexibility and for my ideas to flow really naturally and work at a pace that was manageable for me.

If you followed along on Instagram, what was your favorite project to watch?
